The Covid-19 pandemic has indeed changed the world and we can also observe this in the workplace. In the past, employees ‘health are important, but they do not need take periodic tests/ measurements. Currently, employees are required to take periodic Antigen Rapid Test (ART) or daily body temperature checks, this has changed the landscape and work environment for employees. Although most employees are working from home now, the periodic tests are still required. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused mental wellness of employees in forefront of discussion for many employers around the globe.
An article published by The Staits Times on Aug, 24, 2021, 3:16PM SGT states that about 13 per cent of over 1,000 participants in a study here reported symptoms of anxiety or depression during the Covid-19 pandemic, but a heartening 81.8 per cent said they would be willing to seek professional help for mental health issues relating to the virus. These were some of the preliminary findings from a study by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) that were announced at the Singapore Mental Health Conference 2021 on Tuesday (Aug 24). Conducted in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong between May 2020 and June this year, the study involved 1,058 Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
We believed that employers need to be aware of such situations and therefore some measures could be put in place to manage or monitor the mental wellness of their employees.
